“THE VALUE OF AN IDEA LIES IN THE USING OF IT.” –Thomas Edison
In the city of Kaufbeuren, Bavaria, Burkard Bovensiepen’s family owned a typewriter manufacturing company.
He was more interested in cars than the family business, especially his BMW 1500. In his workshop, he replaced the factory-installed Solex carburetor with dual Weber carburetors, which gave his car a 0-60 mph time of 13 seconds, three seconds faster than before. With that success, Bovensiepen began customizing or “tuning” cars for auto enthusiasts who wanted exclusivity and the most advanced technology available. He named his company Alpina.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOMETHING GOOD AND SOMETHING GREAT IS ATTENTION TO DETAIL.
–Charles R. Swindoll
Two decades later, BMW began a partnership with Alpina by offering subtle yet effective revisions that are integrated during the BMW manufacturing process. These alterations and additions are covered under all BMW warranties and offer discernible performance advantages over the factory model, transforming the vehicle into a high-performance luxury automobile with exceptional power.
IN ORDER TO BE IRREPLACEABLE, ONE MUST ALWAYS BE DIFFERENT.
The BMW Alpina combines an exceptionally powerful automobile with an elaborate attention to detail.
To celebrate this 50-year milestone, Alpina has produced their most formidable models yet: the Edition 50, a B5 Bi-Turbo and B6 Bi-Turbo. These beauties feature hand-crafted sports seats in black leather with piano black trim panels emblazoned with the Edition 50 badge and signature of Bovensiepen. A custom logo (1965-2015) is embossed on the seat backs, in the carpeting and on a key ring. Buyers can choose from Alpine Green or Blue and a special new hue, Edition 50 Sepia, is also available.
A four-piston Brembo brake set with 395 millimeter discs and high temperature resistant pads can stop on a dime. A commanding brake system is needed as both E50’s can reach 62 mph from a stop in 4.2 seconds, with a top speed of 204 mph.
Both vehicles sit on lightweight forged aluminum alloy 20-spoke, 20” wheels, that are so refined they shave off 33 pounds of unnecessary weight. An additional 37 pounds was conserved by replacing the heavier stainless steel exhaust system with titanium.
These cars personify a level of luxury comparable to Bentley. The 4.4-liter Bi-turbo V8’s, produce an astonishing 600 horsepower, which hits its peak quickly at 3,500 rpm, making this the most powerful engine Alpina yet.
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OVERDO LUXURY.
While Alpina usually builds fewer than 2,000 cars per year, offering more exclusivity than even Rolls Royce, the Edition 50 manufacture is limited to only 50 vehicles for each model, making their desirability unmatched, and with an MSRP starting at $129,000, this limited edition will be coveted by BMW enthusiasts around the world.
